Ok D'oh... for me it was the "Secure Attention Key" feature of Trinity (KDE3) KDM.. somehow the "tsak" background process was b0rked with the last upgrade to kdebase-trinity-bin-3.5.13-2debian0~pre49+9 .. thankfully it can be disabled. ...Sorry for the noise C-;
