This bugs is actually persistent for many years and versions of ubuntu. It has been posted here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/512387 , but developers decided that a new report should be opened if the bug persists. The quite the simple fix is (which works for all version Ubuntu) is to add this line to the kernel boot parameters https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/512387 The annoying thing is that because of a bug with grub, you have to add it manually and not by using update-grub.
