There seems to be some hope on the horizon. While discussing AMD's recent UVD code drop (for finally supporting video decoding on the GPU instead of the CPU), AMD's John Bridgman said "We actually expected the next round of power management IP to get approved for release before UVD, but it didn't work out that way. "
