Public bug reported:

Since the upgrade to Kubuntu 13.10 Xorg crashes during startup unless I
deactivate Modesetting support in grub. I am using the free radeon
driver (not the proprietary one).

The lspci output for the graphics card is:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI]
Bonaire XT [Radeon HD 7790/8770]
