This bug has much been fixed in ubuntu gnome trusty, but that flickering is also somewhat present, especially when opening multiple programs or program windows. In ubuntu gnome 13.10 I minimized that by editing time constants in overlay.js and using smaller values. This may probebly be an option for multitasking too. I installed ubuntu gnome trusty on external usb hdd, so I will use the apport-collect command from ther.
