You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: openoffice.org
Reproduce: 1. Make sure Compiz is disabled. 2. Start OpenOffice, with an open document so the toolbars have butttons. Maximize its window. 3. Start GEdit. Maximize its window. 4. Bring OOo to front with focus. 5. Hold down ALT key. 6. Tap the TAB key. Repeat. This cycles between OOo and Gedit as targets to switch to. Actual Result: A7. OOo interface widgets (all?) flicker as you Alt-Tab. Expected Result: E7. No flicker should occur. No redraws are necessary. The behavior is distracting/annoying when using OOo. Also occurs (less noticeably) when no document is open. Similar, if not same underlying behavior has been reported before, with different means of reproducing the flicker: Bug #67942: (Some) Form Buttons Flicker Bug #154934: Open Office interface flickers Bug #172834: widgets often flicker and some remain highlighted after the mouse pointer leaves them Bug #179754: [gutsy] Flickering using multiple instances Bug #375350: OpenOffice Impress slide show on monitor 2 flickers when using applications on monitor 1 The bug 154934 (Open Office interface flickers) was marked invalid, but I do not see why. With or without compiz, it seems that there are still redraw issues in OOo. When compiz is enabled, though, these issues are obscured since the window is probably rendered fully no matter its visibility.
