@Patrick C You say that with a recent Linux Mint you also see the problem. I'd like to note that I have switched from Xubuntu to Linux Mint XFCE recently and have *NOT* had a single standby/resume problem since. (This bug is so serious that Xubuntu 14.04 was no longer an option for serious work on my work laptop.)
