Public bug reported: This is a system that has been upgraded to new versions of ubuntu many times. Recently I switched display drivers to nouveau from nvidia-331.
Upon rebooting, I'm stuck in 640x480. SystemSettings says I'm using nouveau, but actually, I'm using VESA. This is because there are some leftover files in modprobe.d/ that are blacklisting nouveau. I think systemsettings should probably check if nouveau is in use before saying it is, and remove blacklists against nouveau when it is installing it! grep nouveau /etc/modprobe.d/* --> http://paste.ubuntu.com/7448926/ ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+1ubuntu8 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-24.47-generic 3.13.9 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-24-generic x86_64 .tmp.unity.support.test.1: ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: [core, bailer, detection, composite, opengl, decor, imgpng, grid, snap, gnomecompat, move, resize, compiztoolbox, unitymtgrabhandles, regex, mousepoll, vpswitch, wall, animation, expo, workarounds, fade, place, session, ezoom, scale, unityshell] CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Sun May 11 15:51:56 2014 DistUpgraded: 2014-04-20 21:00:38,849 DEBUG enabling apt cron job DistroCodename: trusty DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: bbswitch, 0.7, 3.11.0-12-generic, x86_64: installed bbswitch, 0.7, 3.13.0-24-generic, x86_64: installed ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes GraphicsCard: NVIDIA Corporation GT215 [GeForce GT 240] [10de:0ca3] (rev a2) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: XFX Pine Group Inc.
