I am getting the same error since the update yesterday of ubuntu- drivers-common on my Thinkpad T530. I have a dock with 2 DVI, 1 VGA monitor hooked up. I also have one monitor hooked up via a display-port to hdmi cable coming from the laptop itself. It is the dock based VGA monitor that failed to be recognized.
Downgrading to ubuntu-drivers-common 0.2.91.5 fixed the problem.
