@Devin: If you've installed this update and are having the same problems we are having, then running the update manager won't do you any harm. There is a pretty good QA system in place to prevent an update from bricking someone's machine. If you have similar hardware (Thinkpad W530 or whatever) and are worried about updating because of this bug, you can simply unselect the packages mentioned in this bug to prevent yourself from getting it.
