The reported bug for my graphics card wasn't actually a driver problem, instead
it was an issue with the hardware card itself.
GraphicsCard:
 NVIDIA Corporation G73 [GeForce 7600 GS] [10de:02e1] (rev a2) (prog-if 00 [VGA
controller])
Subsystem: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd Device [1458:3428]
This particular card is passive cooled and due to normal usage it probably
overheated several times degrading the soldering quality a electrical contacts,
so that at a given point in time the above described was verified. However the
problem persisted like that for a long time it eventually conducted to a fully
non working graphics card. Such that the computer would boot but no image would
ever be displayed.
The problem was fixed by ressoldering the GPU chip and including active cooling
to the graphics card.
Now the same card works properly with Ubuntu 14.04LTS.

I think this problem can be closed, at least for my side.

Thanks & Best regards
