Just to clarify my previous post. These packages can't be installed if
you do a fresh install of Ubuntu 14.04.2. If you install Ubuntu 14.04
(the first iso that came out of this release) you can install the
packages and steam as well. I just did this.

These are the packages I have installed even after a dist-upgrade and
subsequent change of version to 14.04.2 in my /etc/issue

ii  libgl1-mesa-dri:amd64                                 10.1.3-0ubuntu0.3     
                              amd64        free implementation of the OpenGL 
API -- DRI modules
ii  libgl1-mesa-dri:i386                                  10.1.3-0ubuntu0.3     
                              i386         free implementation of the OpenGL 
API -- DRI modules
ii  libgl1-mesa-glx:amd64                                 10.1.3-0ubuntu0.3     
                              amd64        free implementation of the OpenGL 
API -- GLX runtime
ii  libgl1-mesa-glx:i386                                  10.1.3-0ubuntu0.3     
                              i386         free implementation of the OpenGL 
API -- GLX runtime
