I had the same issue. After choose NVIDIA legacy binary driver-version 304.125 (proprietary tested and 304.125 with updates). After reboot I lost my desktop and forced to reinstall the system from the DVD. Before, I tried to update from 14.10 and failed. Only works with X.Org X server-Nouveau display driver.
