peterzay, any further improvement on top of that with the 64-bit (not
32-bit) version of http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ ?

** Description changed:

A Dell Inspiron 660 without nVidia graphics works fine.

The same machine with an nVidia card lags and jerks when dragging a
window or scrolling a browser page.

  Most annoying.

I do not have any proprietary drivers and would like to keep things that
  way.
