I'm experiencing this bug as well. Running Xubuntu (Xfce) 15.10 (wily)
x86 (kernel 4.2.0-16) connected to a 1360x768 Hyundai IQ television
monitor via a standard VGA cable. In 14.04 (trusty), I can manually set
the screen resolution to 1360x768 and it will survive reboots, but in
15.10 the setting will usually - but not always - revert itself to
1280x1024, which looks horrible and is non-native for this display. The
login screen is *never* the correct resolution after a restart. I have
only a single user configured, and no custom backgrounds selected.
