Solution for problem number: #1516213 Lowering the brightness turns the monitor black in ubuntu 14.04
Step 1: Go to Terminal and type the following command. “sudo gedit /etc/default/grub” Step 2: A New window opens up with the following content. GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=”quiet splash”. Step 3: Change the content into GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=”quiet splash acpi_backlight=vendor”. Save the file and close the window. Step 4: Open the terminal again and type “sudo update-grub”.
