I am also getting the crash on a recently installed 15.10 ubuntu studio (xfce4.12 window manager) with the nouveau driver on a nvidia gtx 750 ti. I installed the nvidia proprietary driver from nvidia's website, and didn't see any problems, although I didn't use it for long. One of the problems that I had when I installed the proprietary driver was the I couldn't seem to blacklist the nouveau driver - I would reboot after editing blacklist.conf and the driver would still be there. I ended up removing xorg-xserver-video-nouveau just to remove it. When I removed the proprietary driver and returned to the nouveau driver, I again got the crash described above - the screens go blank and then I am returned to the login screen. I was also getting garbled text from the fonts. Eventually, when I unchecked 'anti-alias' in settings->appearance->fonts the problem more or less disappeared, but occasionally it is possible to see that the fonts are not rendering all of their parts in the same colour - in some cases parts of the fonts are transparent. I am just installing oibaf's updated ppa to see if this helps.
