Looks like dependency problems in the python libraries. But since first reporting, in the meanwhile I used Kubuntu Backports to upgrade to plasma 5.5.3, qt 5.5.1 and I am running kernel amd64 4.4.0-040400-generic from ubuntu kernel ppa.
I also tried newer xorg from xorg-edgers and oibaf.
