You have been subscribed to a public bug: I've got a Lubuntu 15 i686 installation with a VIA C7-D cpu. The system was purchased specifically to test the processor. Its got a 8GB SSD and 2GB of RAM, so its a lower end device.
The machine appears to hang during boot. Some time around when text mode is supposed to end and the window manager should begin, the machine appears to freeze. I was able to install SSH through a recovery terminal, so I can peek at things remotely. It looks like Light Display Manager is failing: $ sudo systemctl --failed UNIT LOAD ACTIVE SUB DESCRIPTION ● lightdm.service loaded failed failed Light Display Manager LOAD = Reflects whether the unit definition was properly loaded. ACTIVE = The high-level unit activation state, i.e. generalization of SUB. SUB = The low-level unit activation state, values depend on unit type. 1 loaded units listed. Pass --all to see loaded but inactive units, too. To show all installed unit files use 'systemctl list-unit-files'. It looks like the it could be related to the VIA P4M900 chipset: $ dmesg | egrep "(vga|agp)" [ 0.190082] vgaarb: setting as boot device: PCI:0000:01:00.0 [ 0.190090] vgaarb: device added: PCI:0000:01:00.0,decodes=io+mem,owns=io+mem,locks=none [ 0.190094] vgaarb: loaded [ 0.190099] vgaarb: bridge control possible 0000:01:00.0 [ 2.298179] Linux agpgart interface v0.103 [ 2.298424] agpgart: Detected VIA P4M900 chipset [ 2.304478] agpgart-via 0000:00:00.0: AGP aperture is 128M @ 0xf0000000 Other system details: $ uname -a Linux via 4.2.0-27-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 22 04:48:15 UTC 2016 i686 i686 i686 GNU/Linux $ lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available.
