Launching OS via safe mode works fine with video provided by "Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 3.8, 128 bits)". Version of xserver-xorg-video-ati: 1:7.7.0-1 amd64 Also: - Purge and reinstalling xserver-xorg-video-ati package not helping. - Booting from "Live USB" with Ubuntu 16.04 beta2 results in same effect after choosing "Try Ubuntu" option. + Workaround: + - Install Ubuntu 15.10 or earlier.
