Hi T.C.

I did not quite understand your comment. Are all comments 4, 5, and 6 nto
relevant or is comment 4 (Fedora 18) ok?
Should I update the mentioned packages?

Please let me know, because I desperately look for an answer and my
system still freezes regurlarly.

Here some additional information on this bug:

1. The same machine works ok on Windows 8
This means that it pretty sure, that this is not a hardware issue

2. The same machine has similar problems with ubuntu:
- ubuntu 12.04.02 LTS Live hangs always at starting up X and never gets to the
first "end-user-screen"
- ubuntu 12.10 Live boots correctly and the system can be installed. However
also some very similar freezes occure.
I therefore suspect that the source of the bug is in a code that is shared
between ubuntu and fedora.

3. Fedora 18 stops to be pingable from the moment that the freeze occures.
I therefore suspect, that this is probably not (only) Xorg that freezes but
something else of the system.

4. Updating fedora 18 to the newest code does not help. The freeze still
occures.

5. Changing drivers in feroda 18 from vesa to amd catalyst does not help. The
freeze still occures.
This indicates that it is not an issue related to the graphics driver.

6. Monitoring of fedora 18 does not give any indication on the reason of the
freeze: CPU is low and network activities are low up to the moment of freeze.
This indicated that there it no process going wild and eating up the system
ressources.

7. Further logfile: Logging at /var/log/messages does not show anything
unusual.

I would appreciate very much if somebody could give me some help to fix this
problem. Any suggestions on how to debug, on which logs to look or what to do
are very welcome?

Hi everybody,

I got the hardware back from the HP support. The support confirmed that
there has been a hardware bug in the motherboard of the system.

The motherboard has been exchanged. I have now installed Fedora-19-Mate
and everything works ok.

Hence this has definetly not been a Fedora or Linux bug. This bug can be
closed.

By the way: The support by HP has been very helpful allthough the bug
appeared in Linux and this is offically not supported

Thanks for everybody for the support!!!

Hopefully the debug strategy helps to at least for other people to trace
down their bugs.
