I have recently acquired an used Latitude model and I'm having the same issue on Ubuntu 18.04. This E6420 model has a trackpoint/pointing stick on it, which works fine, moving the cursor around, but the pad won't work for something between 30 seconds to over a minute. Everything else is running fine during that touchpad freeze. I still have not updated the BIOS.
