The freezing seems to occur mainly with Ghostery & Adblock add ons. Because when I disable them, freezing subsides. I had the same issue with ubuntu - until I changed to Lubuntu with the hope a lighter version will solve the problem. Other than that I have no clue why since upgrade to ubuntu/lubuntu 18.10
