Ubuntu Mate 19.04
VLC version 3.0.6 (the one that install along with Ubuntu)
VLC settings used : Default settings, nothing changed after installation of
Ubuntu.

Problem description:
I can open VLC seemingly normally from program Menu.
Trying to play any video file will make the whole desktop freeze - can move
mouse pointer, but otherwise - neither mouse click nor any keyboard combination
will make any response. The only thing that can resolve the freeze state is to
use power button to shutdown/reboot.
System freeze occurs in the very moment VLC is supposed to start reading a
video file. It doesn't matter how I open it (open from file manager, drag file
into VLC main window or start playing from VLC playlist).

Workaround.
In Video settings --> Display Output, change from "Automatic" to "X11 video
output (XCB)"
After the settings is changed, There is no issues playing any video files in
VLC.
