Thanks for the tip - now that we know we have the same graphics chip,
it's obviously a G200 driver issue. Looking at the kernel history, we
find:

which includes:

mgag200:
   - cursor support fix

Which would suggest that this has since been fixed upstream, and it's
just a matter of time until it hits the ubuntu repositories.
