Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel
I'm using the Jaunty Intel Integrated Graphics Guide in the Ubuntu Forums, Optimal Configuration. I updated to the xserver-xorg-video-intel v. 2.9.0 through the x-swat PPA, and when I rebooted, I got through the loading screen with the Ubuntu logo, and then instead of loading the login screen, it output this and sent me into a terminal: usplash: Setting mode 1024x768 failed usplash: Setting mode 800x600 failed usplash: Setting mode 640x480 failed 19+0 records in 19+0 records out kinit: name_to_dev_t(/dev/disk/by-uuid/b758c385-a036-4f2a-b36e-d7ae8acd7ca9) = dev(8,8) kinit: trying to resume from /dev/disk/by-uuid/b758c385-a036-4f2a-b36e-d7ae8acd7ca9 kinit: No resume image, doing normal boot... And then I get a ttyl prompt to login into a terminal. 'sudo gdm' says something about GDM already running, aborting. 'startx' shows the X errors: VESA(0): no valid modes Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration Fatal server error: no screens found I reinstalled xserver-xorg-video-intel_2.7.1-0ubuntu1~xup~1 using wget and dpkg -i, sudo reboot, and everything worked normally, booted into the desktop no problem.
