I agree that i965 should be the default driver. There is a bug in xf86-video-intel (xserver-xorg-video-intel). It leads to iris crashes when DRI2 and the intel DDX driver (instead of modesetting) are in use. https://github.com/flatpak/flatpak/issues/3673#issuecomment-656688063 Almost all current Linux distributions are affected (including Fedora Rawhide and openSUSE Tumbleweed).
