I'm not sure where you got that info, but nomodeset is like a "safe" video 
mode, where a generic, unaccelerated driver is used. From the log:
[    0.043487] You have booted with nomodeset. This means your GPU drivers are 
DISABLED
[    0.043487] Any video related functionality will be severely degraded, and 
you may not even be able to suspend the system properly
[    0.043488] Unless you actually understand what nomodeset does, you should 
reboot without enabling it


The next step is to boot without nomodeset and see if the system fails to reach 
the login screen again. If it does, get to a terminal (Ctr+Alt+F1 or 
Ctrl+Alt+F2) and copy the Xorg log:
cp /var/log/Xorg.0.log ~/badboot.log

The you can reboot with nomodeset and attach the badboot.log here.
