1. Next time the freeze happens and then doesn't (failed login, reboot,
successful login), please run this command:

  journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

and attach the resulting text file here.

2. Please check for any crash reports using these instructions:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Responses#Missing_a_crash_report_or_having_a_.crash_attachment

3. Try logging into 'Ubuntu on Wayland' by clicking the button in the
bottom right corner of the screen before you enter your password. Does
that avoid the problem?
