How frustrating.... I have spent hours researching this issue including numerous reboots and logins.
After opening this bug I logged in to get my processes started expecting the frozen gray screen and the display came up without an issue. If there is anything that can be gained by further examination of this issue please let me know how I can help. If not, please close this bug.
