Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel
I'm running Karmic, 9.10, on a Sony Vaio VGN-C260E laptop, using an Intel driver (see lspci output below). My computer is completely freezing under two circumstances: 1. I connect an external monitor after the laptop is already booted up 2. If I boot the laptop with an external monitor attached, it works properly (output is to external monitor, not to laptop display). However, if I attempt to switch between the external monitor and laptop display using the Fn-F7 hotkey, it will switch to displaying on both displays. If I hit Fn-F7 again the laptop freezes. No ctrl+alt+backspace/esc/delete/Fxx does anything. I have to hard power down Note -- if I properly turn off the external monitor (using system- preferences-display), I can disconnect it just fine and use the laptop display. If I then attempt to plug in a DIFFERENT external monitor, I get the same behavior as in 1. >From reading around, it looks as though this is related to the xserver- xorg-video-intel package, and that people have had similar experiences. I list this as a new bug because it seems I'm having slightly different behavior, and with different hardware. sudo lspci [sudo] password for sdavis: 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/PM/GMS, 943/940GML and 945GT Express Memory Controller Hub (rev 03) 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: external fn freezes hotkeys monitor ** Summary changed: - Computer freezes when external monitor is plugged in + [Karmic] Sony Vaio VGN-C260E laptop freezes when external monitor is plugged in -- [Karmic] Sony Vaio VGN-C260E laptop freezes when external monitor is plugged in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/462393 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
