Problem unfortunately persists in 9.10 release :(
However, I can now access a tty so I copied Xorg.0.log which you'll find 
attached.

One monitor ("left") gives total graphical corruption, the other remains
black. Accessing a terminal with control alt F1 I notice the right
monitor works okay the left one seems confused as to where the cursor
is, I have to type over previous lines.  Perhaps I should note my
monitors are different in resolution.

Also note other people are reporting this bug on ubuntu forums, so im
marking this as confirmed.
