The problem appears to be fixed in Karmic (at least it works for me), but there have been reports of other problems with Karmic. YMMV. In the meanwhile, someone has suggested adding these lines to the /etc/X11/xorg.conf configuration file, in the "Device" section (mine looks like this): Section "Device" Identifier "Configured Video Device" Driver "intel" Option "AccelMethod" "uxa" Option "EXAOptimizeMigration" "true" Option "MigrationHeuristic" "greedy" EndSection (It's been a while so I don't know who to attribute this to).
