Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xrandr

Eliminating displayconfig-gtk from Ubuntu 9.1 was a big mistake, Anyone using a
lcd tv as a monitor or a monitor that is not recognized can no longer easily
and permanently set the screen resolution without a lot of trouble. Xrandr does
not make the changes permanently and it requires going into the terminal each
time and . Display config allowed you play with , find a resolution that worked
and the changes were permanent. No editing of files required.
The aim in software development is to make it easier not harder to do
something. Why not come up with a program that encompasses the benefits of both
displayconfig-gtk and xrandr? The average user of ubuntu does not want to be
editing files every time a new version is created.

** Affects: xrandr (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
