=== Description === Ubuntu 9.10 On boot, the computer reaches the login screen and allows you to enter your username and password. Then within 1-15 seconds after you see the desktop the machine freezes. "freezes" by definition means the machine is completely 100% non- responsive. The mouse will not move. The keyboard will not respond. After a hard shut down (IE: unplug the machine from the UPS) you can reach the login screen again after a reboot, at this point if you select fail-safe the machine runs as expected... but only in fail-safe move. KDE and X run fine. This bug is specific to Gnome Standard. === Hardware === It's a Compaq Presario - Celeron D Intel 950 Video Card 1.5 GB ram === Automated Info === ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 CheckboxSubmission: 1923ca52bf5a2e4df6574cb43225cf73 CheckboxSystem: 6ce041aeed0a2c17b3343b66d157175d Date: Mon Oct 26 10:56:09 2009 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/yelp Package: yelp 2.28.0-0ubuntu2 ProcEnviron: LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.31-14.48-generic SourcePackage: yelp Uname: Linux 2.6.31-14-generic i686 === Possible Workaround === Another user with similar hardware and freeze has reported that it is the latest driver that is causing the issue, and has rolled back to a previous version with success. === Possible Cause === Possibly a conflict with Compiz and Intel video drivers? ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed ** Tags: apport-bug i386 karmic -- Gnome Freezes -- Ubuntu 9.10 -- big time freezes. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/461163 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
