Not a linux bug; the kernel packages don't provide any nouveau
components.
Can you provide /var/log/Xorg.0.log (and/or /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old)
showing a boot with nouveau crashing your system? Do you have the
appropriate linux-headers package installed? My first guess would be
that the nouveau kernel module is not getting autobuilt for your new
kernel because you don't have the necessary headers installed.
