Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg
This is a strange one and not easily reproducible. It only occurs if gnome-do is running in docky mode AND I bring up a video by double clicking on it. I have gmplayer set as my default video player for nautilus. Sometimes when in this situation, the X screen starts flipping like an old TV and becomes completely non-responsive. CTRL-SHIFT-F1 sometimes takes me to a virtual window where I can at least interact with the PC locally. However, I can not kill the X process - even with a kill -9. I can't even shutdown cleanly. The shutdown process halts. I am forced to hard reset. Most of the time I have no problems. It is as if each time bring up a video in mplayer then close it down - some resource is being held. The more I do this, the more likely I am too encounter this bug. I am in the middle of ripping all of my DVDs to play on a media player so I am looking at video all the time.
