I have a new variant of this problem running Lucid beta-1 (with some updates) on the same system: screen coordinates are shifted, and the console tty's do not work. See Bug #495553 "Screen origin shifted to center, screen wraps, on Averatec 3280 with openchrome driver" I'm not sure whether this is the screen driver itself (the same thing happens using the vesa driver) or higher up in xorg code.
