Hi Marco, According to the thread in this link, this bug was reintroduced to newer xserver versions. I guess, I should sign up for this bug and tell the developers about your problem. Good luck!
I am not an expert either though. I should tell you, if you get an ATI- based machine you should become one :) Other types of architectures can make you think sometimes too. However, most of the issues (on nVidia and Intel) make sense and get resolved pretty quickly. The majority of troubles I and my friends are having due to ATI bad drivers and/or secrecy are not usually fixed.
