I followed the instructions on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze on how to get a batchbuffer dump, unfortunately i915_batchbuffers is empty. I inserted "export INTEL_DEBUG=batch into /etc/init/gdm.conf, right before "exec gdm-binary $CONFIG_FILE", does this suffice?
