I have the same laptop but the touchpad didn't work at all with a new installation of Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala). I had to create an xorg.conf file with the configuration for the touchpad. Option "SHMConfig" "true" had to be set to get it working.
I noticed a "Unable to query Synaptics hardware" message in the kernel logs and found this Gentoo bug report that details issues with synaptics devices and the kernel: http://bugs.gentoo.org/287019 -- Synaptics Touchpad on Dell Inspiron 2650 not always working after restart https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/479839 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
