Since the bug only happens when the appearance setting is "Normal" or "Extra" I think the bug is in compiz which replaces the default window manager when "Normal" or "Extra" is chosen from the appearance setting.
To give compiz developers all relevant information please type "apport- collect 507241" in a terminal. This will use apport, a bug reporting tool to collect information about your system needed to fix your bug and add that information to this bug- report.
