Hello Got the same problem in kernel 2.6.31-17-generic Karmic with a Dell D630 Laptop. USing a Dual Screen setup. My laptop was ok. 1280 X 800 But the VGA was always using 1024x768. [ 2.199142] [drm] DAC-6: set mode 1024x768
Nothing to do.... But, after installing 2.6.32 from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.32-rc4/, the problem is resolved.
