I think this will be working in kernel 2.6.33, which includes the new KMS page-flipping ioctl. See http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=Nzc4OQ for more info. Lucid has the 2.6.32 kernel, but backporting some of the DRM from the 2.6.33 kernel is currently being discussed on the ubuntu-x mailing list.
