Thank you for that. Now have you tried booting with i915.powersave=0 added to the kernel command line in grub (after it says quiet splash) to see if it fixes your issue or not? That will help narrowing down the problem.
** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg When I first installed Lucid on my T500 I believe everything seemd to be fine with the display. Recently though the screen has started giving flashes -- as though there was some form of sync problem for the display. The flashes are of irregular frequency and occurrence. I haven't yet seen any pattern to the behaviour. They are however exceptionally annoying. I believe I am using the Intel chipset graphics device -- I am not actually aware of how to switch to using the alternate graphics hardware, but I am told it is not worth bothering with, so I haven't. I am using the Compiz window manager so I guess the problem could be there rather than with Xorg. There is no xorg.conf file so there is no overide of the default behaviour. I am not sure what programs to run to give useful output for this problem. I have attached the current Xorg log file. - --- + --- Architecture: amd64 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 DkmsStatus: - virtualbox-ose, 3.1.4, 2.6.32-17-generic, x86_64: installed - virtualbox-ose, 3.1.4, 2.6.32-16-generic, x86_64: installed - virtualbox-ose-guest, 3.1.4, 2.6.32-17-generic, x86_64: installed - virtualbox-ose-guest, 3.1.4, 2.6.32-16-generic, x86_64: installed + virtualbox-ose, 3.1.4, 2.6.32-17-generic, x86_64: installed + virtualbox-ose, 3.1.4, 2.6.32-16-generic, x86_64: installed + virtualbox-ose-guest, 3.1.4, 2.6.32-17-generic, x86_64: installed + virtualbox-ose-guest, 3.1.4, 2.6.32-16-generic, x86_64: installed InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid Lynx" - Alpha amd64 (20100224.1) MachineType: LENOVO 20827SG Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.9.1-1ubuntu16 PackageArchitecture: amd64 PccardctlIdent: - Socket 0: - no product info available + Socket 0: + no product info available PccardctlStatus: - Socket 0: - no card + Socket 0: + no card ProcCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-17-generic root=UUID=d075e3b9-f26d-4896-9983-4afe962b115a ro quiet splash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-17.26-generic 2.6.32.10+drm33.1 Tags: lucid lucid Uname: Linux 2.6.32-17-generic x86_64 UserGroups: adm admin cdrom dialout lpadmin plugdev sambashare dmi.bios.date: 01/09/2009 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: 6FET56WW (2.02 ) dmi.board.name: 20827SG dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: Not Available dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: Not Available dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvr6FET56WW(2.02):bd01/09/2009:svnLENOVO:pn20827SG:pvrThinkPadT500:rvnLENOVO:rn20827SG:rvrNotAvailable:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrNotAvailable: dmi.product.name: 20827SG dmi.product.version: ThinkPad T500 dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO system: - distro: Ubuntu - codename: lucid - architecture: x86_64 - kernel: 2.6.32-17-generic + distro: Ubuntu + codename: lucid + architecture: x86_64 + kernel: 2.6.32-17-generic + + [lspci] + 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2a42] (rev 07) + Subsystem: Lenovo Device [17aa:2114] ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- Problem with X in Lucid on Lenovo T500 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/538648 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
