Thank you for the log. The log says which packages were updated when, and quite a lot were updated on 29-3-10. The only suspect I could see was libx264, but from the description it looks like it is only used for encoding and not decoding videos. Unfortunately, I don't think this bug report will receive any priority soon, since there are many other bugs that make the computer unusable, and this only makes it a little less usable. If you find which package that made the difference, it may make it easier to isolate the problem and more likely that someone will have time to look at it.
