I just noticed that the boot splash screen is garbled, too. So its not really an X issue but somewhere else. The VGA input of my screen works fine with another machine; I'll try to find another box with a DVI out to see if it might be the hardware. Or I'd just throw this stupid screen away if I had the money to buy a new one :-/
