A few moments ago I booted the kubuntu 10.04-rc live CD on my first generation MacBookAir (intel GMA 3100 - no NVIDIA graphics!) and EVERYTHING worked fine! My Samsung Monitor (DVI1 1600x1200 res.) was set up right of the MacBook Display (LVDS-1 1280x800). Compositing was on, all the desktop effects worked fine and FAST with opengl. So I believe in a special bug in the GM945 part of the intel-driver or the mesa System wit opengl.
