On my Sony Laptop 9.10 with the nv-driver worked fine as well. The only thing that didn't work was the external monitor which is connected by the DVI-port of the docking station. I installed Lucid now and booted it with the option 'nomodeset' and then istalled the nvidia-driver. I read that because of a bug in the nvidia driver the internal display isn't detected, so the nvidia driver only works with the external monitor.
