The above fix works for me, but leaves me with a non-accelerating pointer and unable to scroll with the touchpad.
I found another fix that works better.: rm -rf /home/ben/.gconf/desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad You need to kill the session (killall gnome-session) and log in again after you do this. The bug keeps re-occurring and needs to be fixed every time.
